About:
ENG: The project site once served as the railway corridor of Azerbaijan Railways, directly linking the Baku Demiryolu Vağzalı (Railway Station) with the Caspian coast. With the redevelopment of the national rail network and the transformation of the coastal zone into a recreational landscape, this surface-level connection has disappeared, leaving a gap in the city’s mobility and memory. Today, the site is redefined by the new Baku Metro line, which passes underground instead of on the ground, reinstating the area as a place of connection while offering a unique opportunity to create a new public space that bridges history, infrastructure, and urban life.
THE PLANNED METRO STATION - POTENTIALS + UPGRADES
The previously planned metro station and its entrances do not fully utilize the potential of the site. Located between 28 May küçəsi and Yusif Səfərov küçəsi, the area holds the capacity to become more than just a transit node: it can transform into an urban plaza that reconnects the two important city axes.

CONCEPT & PHILOSOPHY
The project proposes the new metro station and its plazas—at street level and six meters below ground—as vital gathering spaces for the people of Baku, united under the theme of peace. This concept reflects the vision of a democratic Azerbaijan, carrying the potential to play a key role as a peace maker in the Caspian region. In this spirit, the guiding slogan is:
“New metro lines built on peace, destined for future generations of Azerbaijan.
We build tracks on lasting peace for the future generations.”

THE TREE OF PEACE - LOCATED AT THE HEART OF THE “PEACE SQUARE STATION”
The main architectural gesture of the project is defined by a monumental canopy that extends across the plaza. Its design draws inspiration from the traditional Azerbaijani craft of Şebeke, a latticework window that here transforms into a contemporary symbol of openness and connection. Anchored in this philosophy, the new metro station will be crowned by a monumental canopy that embraces the plaza. Its form draws inspiration from the traditional Azerbaijani woodwork craft of Şebeke—a lattice window that here becomes a contemporary architectural symbol. This canopy is envisioned as a new window opening towards Azerbaijan’s technological and democratic future in peace.

THE NEW METRO STATION: SITEPLAN & ARCHITECTURE
Conceived as a landmark for the city, this design transforms the metro entrance into a dynamic public plaza. Its strong concept and geometry invites people to gather, interact, and experience Baku’s evolving urban identity.
