Ankara Ulucanlar Prison Renovation - Urban Invasion
The Project afar from heavily emphasizing on the prison building, names the current urban condition and the city as "prison" itself, and so chooses the Ulucanlar Main Prison as the headquarters for the free spaces to invade the city. the Design process works on a timeline, and again afar from representing the idea as a finished product, it emphasizes on the free space strategies and the timeline which these strategies scatter to.The design process starts with the pythagoras modules (1p,2p,4p), which can be seen as the beta products of the timeline. These 3 modules start to integrate to each other, and fill the unused urban spaces. Functionless, they only have laptops as their equipment in their interior space and they are connected with each other on a digital network. This experiment can be seen as the conversion of the digital network which has rich potentials, to a social network (ex: facebook), and then finally to an urban network of free spaces.
This urban invasion tries to present a line of escape from the rigid framework of today's urban design principles within the principles themselves, where it is already evolved from the discipline society to the control society.
